When it comes to maintaining the GXV HILT, wheels and tires are one area where the right tools truly matter. Whether you’re rotating tires, checking wear, or handling a repair on the road, being prepared makes the job safer, faster, and far less stressful.
Before doing any work, start with the basics. A good pair of work gloves protects your hands, and accurate tire pressure is critical on the HILT. These tires typically run in the 90-100 PSI range, so a quality tire gauge rated up to 100+ PSI is essential. Along with pressure, monitoring tread wear is just as important. A simple tread depth gauge allows you to track tire condition over time, just like checking air pressure.
The GXV HILT uses beadlock-style wheels with three sets of lug nuts. When removing the wheels, you’ll be working with the center lug nuts, which require a 24mm socket. Pair that with a solid impact wrench and a socket extension, especially for the rear wheels where access is deeper. This combination makes wheel removal far more efficient.

Sometimes wheels don’t come off easily, even after the lug nuts are removed. In those cases, a sledgehammer can be extremely helpful. Strike the tire-not the rim-and always ensure you have enough room to swing safely.
Safety is non-negotiable when working on a vehicle like the HILT. Tire chocks are absolutely critical to prevent any movement while you’re working.
When reinstalling wheels, a torque wrench rated to at least 200 ft-lbs ensures everything is tightened correctly. For longevity, always back off the tension on the torque wrench when it’s not in use.

For tire damage in the field, having a complete repair solution on hand is essential. A GlueTread tire repair kit, including the GlueTread x Factory 55 collaboration kit, provides everything needed to address sidewall damage, punctures, or valve stem issues.
Finally, every GXV HILT should carry a bottle jack. A 12-ton hydraulic bottle jack provides the lifting capacity needed to safely get the rig off the ground when changing or servicing a tire.
These are the wheel and tire tools carried in the rig and relied on in real-world conditions.

Here is the full list of tools:
